Amol Muzumdar calls India’s World Cup win a ‘Watershed moment’, heaps special praise for Shefali Verma News24 –

An emotional Amol Muzumdar termed India’s maiden Women’s World Cup triumph as a “watershed moment” for Indian cricket as the side has made the entire nation proud. The victory was anchored by 21-year-old Shafali Verma’s brilliant all-round show as she scored 87 runs and claimed two wickets. “If I had to describe Shafali in one word it’s magical,” Mazumdar said. “Semi-final, final, packed stadium, all the pressure – she turns up every time. Runs, wickets, catches, everything. Couldn’t be prouder.”

Deepti Sharma’s five-for and Sree Charani’s cool finish gave India a comfortable victory, bowling South Africa out for 246 after having made 298 on the board. Mazumdar was also impressed with how the team fielded and their improved levels of fitness. For Mazumdar, who has long been regarded as one of the most gifted Indian cricketers never to wear the national jersey, this victory held much personal significance. “This is a watershed moment,” he reflected. “The impact will be felt for generations to come.”

“I’m speechless. Absolutely proud. They deserve every bit of this moment,” Muzumdar said after India’s 52-run victory over South Africa in the final at DY Patil Stadium. “The hard work, the belief — they’ve made every Indian proud.”

The words of Mazumdar sat aptly with the emotion of the nation as celebrations erupted and captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s squad shared tearful embraces. For India, it was more than just a trophy; this victory symbolized belief, the ability to persevere, and the rewriting of history.

“That was one thing we spoke a lot about in the dressing room. They just turned it up today. I couldn’t have asked for more.”

India didn’t just win a World Cup in 2025 but on November 2, sent out a wave of motivation that every setback was an opportunity for greatness.
