Sunrisers Hyderabad all set to release Heinrich Klaasen? Report gives major update ahead of auction News24 –

The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) is considering to release Heinrich Klaasen ahead of IPL 2026 auction despite retaining him for INR 23 crore last season. This has been reported by Times of India, and according to it the batter’s potential release has already caught attention of several franchises who are eager to bid for him if he comes in the auction pool.

“There are strong murmurs and it could well be a smart move by SRH if they do that. Going into the auction with Rs 23 crore more allows them a reasonable shot to fill in the crucial gaps – assemble a penetrating bowling attack and get their middle-order act right. They can even have a fair shot at getting the South African back (for) around Rs 15 crore and the balance can help them do some effective shopping,” as mentioned by TOI.

Klaasen recently announced his retirement from the international cricket in June 2025 and he is also the SRH’s highest paid player, he even earns more than their skipper Pat Cummins. In the 2025 season of IPL, Klaasen scored 487 runs in 13 innings with an average of 44.27 and a strike rate of 172.69. But despite his valuable contribution, SRH could not achieve the playoffs spot.

“There has been an interest in Shami after his recent exploits in the domestic circuit but the franchises are likely to operate with caution. SRH, too, could follow a similar approach. The Hyderabad-based franchise are desperate to add a quality spinner as they weren’t pleased with Rahul Chahar,” Sahil Malhotra wrote for TOI.

It has also been reported that SRH is now keen on adding a spinner in their team despite having options like Rahul Chahar, Adam Zampa, Zeeshan Ansari, and Harsh Dubey, none delivered consistent results.
