In a remarkable gesture celebrating a historic sporting achievement, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles has announced that it will gift the first units of its highly anticipated Tata Sierra SUV to the Indian Women’s Cricket Team. The move honors the team’s stunning victory at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, a triumph that has redefined the landscape of women’s cricket in India.
The much-awaited Tata Sierra is slated for its official launch on November 25, marking the return of the legendary nameplate in a bold, modern avatar. Unlike the original three-door classic, the new Sierra will debut as a five-door family SUV, blending nostalgia with cutting-edge design. The SUV will feature a panoramic sunroof, connected LED taillights, flush door handles, and a striking red paint finish as showcased in recent teasers, signaling Tata’s push into the premium SUV segment.
Record Prize Pool Highlights Growth of Women’s Cricket
Meanwhile, the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 shattered financial records with a record prize pool of Rs 123 crore, nearly quadrupling the Rs 31 crore offered in 2022. This figure also surpasses the Rs 89 crore distributed during the 2023 Men’s World Cup. As newly crowned champions, India will receive around Rs 40 crore, while runners-up South Africa will take home approximately Rs 20 crore. For context, Australia, who lifted the trophy in 2022, earned Rs 12 crore.
BCCI Rewards the Champions with Rs 51 Crore Bonus
Further celebrating the momentous win, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a Rs 51 crore bonus for the team. Each player and head coach Amol Muzumdar are expected to receive between Rs 2-3 crore, with the support staff earning Rs 20-30 lakh each.
After finishing fourth in the league stage, the Women in Blue produced a stunning turnaround in the knockout rounds, displaying resilience and skill to clinch their maiden World Cup title. Their next major assignment will be an all-format series against Australia, scheduled for February-March 2026.
With this World Cup triumph, the Indian Women’s Cricket Team has etched its name in cricketing history, symbolizing a new dawn for the women’s game in the country. Tata Motors’ decision to present the first Sierra SUVs to the champions is more than just a marketing gesture, it’s a tribute to their extraordinary journey and a celebration of women’s sport at its finest.
