Suryakumar Yadav praises Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill’s partnership in T20Is, dismisses strike rate concerns News24 –
Shubman Gill has recently been appointed as the new vice-captain in the T20Is but he has been criticised for his batting strike rate in the shortest format. Till now, Gill has featured in 33 T20Is and scored 837 runs with an average of 29.89 and a strike rate of 140.43.
In the T20Is, Shubman Gill replaced Sanju Samson as the opener and became a new partner of Abhishek Sharma who has shown aggressive power-hitting in the T20 format.
Suryakumar Yadav has come in support of Gill and even praised his partnership with young opener Abhishek Sharma. Speaking in post-match press conference after the T20I series win against Australia, Suryakumar highlighted the both the duo are fire and fire.
“They both are looking to match each other’s strike rates. It’s a combination of fire and fire,” Suryakumar said.
“That is what I am saying. It’s not fire and ice. It’s fire and fire.”
“In my opinion, if the wicket is a bit difficult, then it is important to adapt. Today, the wicket was good, so these two scored more than 50 in five overs. In the last game, it was important to read the wicket, and these two did just that. At this level, experience helps, and see how he (Gill) adapted in the last game. Both Abhishek and Gill have good communication. It is just a case of adapting; they complement each other well,” he added.
