After Bumrah’s ‘Bauna’ remark – THIS former South African legend responded that ‘There will be…’ News24 –

South Africa batting coach Ashwell Prince has downplayed the controversy surrounding the “bauna” (dwarf) comment allegedly made by India’s Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant towards Proteas captain Temba Bavuma. Speaking after the end of Day 1, Prince made it clear that the team will not be engaging in any conversations about the incident.

No Plans to Address the Comment

The remark came during the 13th over of South Africa’s innings when Bumrah bowled a sharp nip-backer that hit Bavuma high on the back thigh. After the on-field umpire rejected Bumrah’s LBW appeal, the pacer walked over to Pant, and their conversation – picked up on the stump mic – seemingly included the word “bauna” while discussing Bavuma’s height.

Prince, however, brushed aside the matter.

“No, there will be no discussion. It’s the first time it’s come to my attention. I don’t think there’ll be any issues with what’s happened,” he said during the press conference.

Bavuma Falls Early as South Africa Collapse for 159

The LBW appeal in question was eventually confirmed not out, but Bavuma couldn’t stay for long, falling to Kuldeep Yadav for just 3 off 11. South Africa struggled throughout the innings and were bowled out for a modest 159 in 55 overs.

Prince acknowledged India’s strong bowling performance, especially praising Mohammed Siraj’s improved second spell and Bumrah’s relentless accuracy.

“Siraj didn’t quite find his rhythm early on, but he came back well after changing ends. Bumrah was relentless, and the spinners did their job too,” Prince noted. “We’ve got a long way to go in this game and will need to bat much better in the second innings.”

India End Day 1 Steady at 37/1

In reply, India reached 37 for 1 before bad light brought an early close to the day’s play. KL Rahul and Washington Sundar were at the crease, with India trailing South Africa’s first-innings total by 122 runs heading into Day 2.
