Bret Hart opens up on his dream WWE storyline with John Cena, praises him as true professional News24 –
WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart has praised John Cena’s dedication and work ethic, saying the two could have created a memorable storyline together. Hart, who left WWE following the infamous Montreal Screwjob in 1997, retired a year later after a concussion against Bill Goldberg. Meanwhile, Cena quickly rose through the ranks after his 2002 main roster debut, capturing his first WWE Championship just three years later.
Bret Hart Reflects on His Past Amid Memories of WrestleMania 2
In 2010, the retired legend stepped back into the ring for a farewell run and one final battle with what was arguably his arch-nemesis, Vince McMahon, at WrestleMania 26. John Cena successfully defended the WWE Championship against Batista at that same show. In a recent interview on the Johnny I Pro Show, Bret Hart spoke to Montreal fans about what happened to him in 1997.
Hart Reveals He Once Wanted a US-Canada Storyline with John Cena
He generously spoke of John Cena, whom he thinks could have done a fantastic US-Canada storyline. He was referencing his own run from the ’90s, when Vince McMahon had him work as a heel in America but a strong babyface in Canada. Many years later, John Cena won the United States Championship, which led to the “US Open Challenge” that revitalized his career.
“Oh yeah, John Cena would be up on the list of guys I wish to wrestle. Can you imagine Cena with the US-Canada thing that I had going? Boy, it would have been…” Hart wondered.
“Hypothetically, if the Montreal Screwjob never happened and I was still in WWE, that would have happened. I would have worked with John Cena, and he would have done amazing stuff.”
Hart Reveals Why John Cena Reminded Him of His Own Prime Years
The Hitman then mentioned that he admired Cena’s meticulous approach and professionalism, which reminded him of his own career.
“I’ve always been really impressed with John Cena. I’ll just say this: when I was back there in 2010, wrestling Vince and all that stuff, I found out that Cena was very comparable to me in the sense that he was a serious professional. He was a detail guy who went over every little aspect of the match. I remember watching him go over matches with different wrestlers. Just being around him, I thought, ‘That’s what I used to do.’ I found John Cena to be such a professional, and I would have loved to work with him.”
