South Africa dismantles India on Day 3 in Guwahati, another home series clean sweep on cards for India News24 –

South Africa are in complete control of the second Test at Guwahati on Day 3, leaving India facing the possibility of another home series sweep. After being bowled out for just 201 in their second innings, India now trail the visitors by 314 runs. Marco Jansen’s sensational six-wicket haul played a major role in the collapse, highlighting South Africa’s dominance on the pitch.

Jansen Shines with Bat and Ball

Jansen continued his brilliant all-round form, following up a first-innings 93 with 6/48 in India’s second innings. His short-ball assault and relentless accuracy tore through India’s middle order, reducing the hosts to 122/7. Washington Sundar (48) and Kuldeep Yadav (19) briefly resisted with a 72-run partnership, but it was only a minor recovery. Jansen returned with the new ball to dismiss Kuldeep and Jasprit Bumrah, completing one of the finest all-round performances by a visiting player in India. His feat now places him alongside Zaheer Khan and Mitchell Johnson as left-arm fast bowlers who have taken five-wicket hauls in India.

India’s Batting Collapse

India had a steady start at 65/0, with Yashasvi Jaiswal looking set for a big score. However, wickets fell quickly after tea. Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant (7), Nitish Kumar Reddy (10), KL Rahul (22), and Sai Sudharsan all fell cheaply, leaving India reeling at 102/4. Dhruv Jurel’s 11-ball duck and the lower-order failures deepened India’s crisis. By lunch, they were 174/7, still trailing by 315 runs. On a pitch described as a “road” by Indian bowlers, the hosts simply could not handle Jansen’s pace and bounce.

South Africa Didn’t Enforced Follow On

With a first-innings lead of 288, South African captain Temba Bavuma opted not to enforce the follow-on. Instead, he consulted his dressing room and chose to bat again, using the light roller before starting their second innings. The decision reflected South Africa’s control over the game and the favorable conditions for their batsmen, highlighting India’s ongoing struggles despite the home advantage.

Another Clean Sweep For India At Home?

With two full days left in the Test, the pressure now lies on India’s bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj to take early wickets. Anything less could allow South Africa to extend their lead further and push India closer to a second successive home series sweep. For now, Guwahati belongs to the visitors, and India must find answers fast.
