The Women’s Premier League (WPL) wrapped up its much-anticipated mega auction on Thursday, November 27, marking only the second major reshuffle in the league’s history after the inaugural 2023 season. With three successful seasons behind it, the league entered a new chapter as all five franchises refreshed their squads.
Ahead of the auction, each team had the option to retain up to five players. Delhi Capitals – three-time finalists and two-time champions Mumbai Indians both maxed out their retention slots. Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the 2024 champions, held on to four players, while Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz went in with the leanest cores, retaining just two and one player respectively.
What’s the dynamics for Gujarat Giants ?
The Gujarat Giants walked out of the WPL 2026 auction with a fully stacked 18-member squad, smartly using their purse and addressing key gaps. Entering the auction with Rs 15 crore, the Giants had spent rs 6 crore on retentions and went big on auction day with Rs 8.85 crore, eventually filling all 18 slots.
They’ve also maxed out both categories – 12 Indian players and 6 overseas picks giving them a balanced, flexible group for the upcoming season. With a refreshed core and renewed squad depth, Gujarat Giants look far more competitive heading into WPL 2026.
