After Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma to play in Vijay Hazare Trophy News24 –


India’s star duo Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are currently a part of ODI series against South Africa but now a big update comes in with a source confirming to News24 that former India captain Rohit Sharma has confirmed about his availability for Vijay Hazare Trophy. In June 2024 after India won the T20 World Cup both Rohit and Kohli announced their retirement from T20Is and in May 2025 the duo retired from Test format as well. They now only play ODIs, hence, in order to stay in form for the 2027 World Cup, the BCCI wants the duo to play the Vijay Hazare Tournament.

Domestic events like the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Ranji Trophy have always been considered the backbone of Indian cricket, and the presence of senior players can only raise the quality and visibility of the tournaments. It was earlier reported that BCCI wanted both the senior players to take part in the tournament keeping in mind the 2027 World Cup prospect.

Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s future has been a top of discussion since they announced their retirement from T20Is and Tests. The duo has been in stunning form since they returned to international cricket fir Australia series in October 2025. In the first ODI against South Africa also Virat Kohli showed exceptional form as he scored 135 runs off 120 balls while Rohit Sharma played a significant knock of 57 runs.

‘RO-KO’ shut down all the critiques with their stellar performances till now as they stitched back-to-back century partnerships and provided a major boost to India’s batting order. Now after the series concludes, their focus will shift to Vijay Hazare Trophy which is starting from December 24.
