After his masterful 52nd ODI century in the series opener against South Africa, Kohli jumped one spot to No. 4 in the ICC ODI batting rankings, moving past Shubman Gill. With Gill still recovering from a neck injury and missing game time, he slipped to fifth.

Rohit Sharma maintains his top spot

Kohli’s surge now puts him right behind Rohit Sharma, who continues to sit comfortably at the top after a composed fifty in Ranchi. That means India currently boasts the No. 1 and No. 4 batters in the world — not a bad place to be heading deeper into the season.

With form, fitness, and fixtures all lining up, the rankings could see more movement in the coming weeks. For now, though, Kohli’s climb is yet another reminder that the old master isn’t done rewriting the narrative.
