Bowler who dismissed Virat Kohli multiple times suspended after testing positive for…, Drug testing reveals this
The mighty bowler who took Virat Kohli’s wicket multiple times in the nets is now in serious trouble. Indian domestic cricket has been rocked by a major controversy. The Uttarakhand left-arm fast bowler Rajan Kumar has tested positive for a slew of banned substances. The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has imposed a provisional suspension on the 29-year-old sports star.
According to sources, three banned substances were found in Rajan Kumar’s sample. As per media reports, his samples contained drostanolone and methenolone (anabolic steroids) and clomiphene, a fertility drug that is often abused to increase testosterone levels. Following standard anti-doping procedures, NADA took immediate action upon confirmation of the results.
Uttrakhand’s domestic star
Rajan Kumar last played for Uttarakhand in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) against Delhi in Ahmedabad on December 8. He has not yet issued a statement on the matter, and it is unclear whether he will request a re-examination of his B sample or challenge the allegations.
This development is being considered a major setback for a bowler whose domestic numbers had been improving. Kumar was one of the most successful bowlers in the 2025 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, claiming 13 wickets in 7 matches, including a four-wicket haul, and maintaining an impressive strike rate of 8.34 overall. His domestic cricket performances were impeccable, unlike his Test results:
- T20: 32 wickets in 26 matches (average 21.31)
- List A: 14 wickets in 9 matches (best performance 5/28)
- First Class: 8 wickets in 4 matches
Rajan’s Connection with RCB
Rajan Kumar has also been part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He was bought for ₹70 lakh in the IPL 2023 auction and retained for the 2024 season, although he has not yet made his IPL debut.
Doping cases are relatively rare in Indian cricket. The last major case involved Prithvi Shaw in 2019, who was banned for eight months after testing positive for terbutaline. Shaw claimed that the substance entered his system through cough medicine. Additionally, Anshula Rao was suspended in 2020 after failing a dope test.
