Nandini Sharma created a landmark moment in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) on Sunday by becoming the first bowler from Delhi Capitals (DC) to take a hat-trick in the tournament. The 24-year-old achieved the feat against Gujarat Giants at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, finishing with remarkable figures of 4-0-33-5. Her exceptional bowling helped DC dominate the Giants and added another historic moment to the WPL record books.

Who is Nandini Sharma?

Nandini Sharma, born on 20 September 2001 in Chandigarh, is a promising pace bowler making waves in Indian women’s cricket. She has represented Chandigarh Women in domestic competitions and North Zone Women in inter-zonal tournaments. Known for her ability to take crucial wickets and apply pressure, she steadily built a reputation as a reliable young bowler. Her consistent performances in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy 2025 helped her earn a place in the WPL, where Delhi Capitals signed her for Rs 20 lakh, marking a major milestone in her career.

Historic Hat-Trick Against Gujarat Giants

In the 20th over of Gujarat Giants’ innings, Nandini dismissed Kanika Ahuja, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, and Renuka Singh to complete the hat-trick. The sequence began with Ahuja being stumped off a clever slower ball, followed by Gayakwad being bowled through the middle stump, and finally, Renuka Singh was LBW after misreading a length ball that shattered her leg stump. This performance made Nandini the fourth bowler in WPL history to achieve a hat-trick, joining Issy Wong, Grace Harris, and Deepti Sharma.

A Team Effort and Personal Milestone

Nandini credited her teammates, captain Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma, for their guidance throughout the match. “I was just focused on bowling at my target. Shafali and Jemimah were talking to me before every ball, and the plan was simple to attack the stumps,” she said. Nandini adjusted her line and length after her first over, which helped her take a five-wicket haul and the historic hat-trick. She celebrated the achievement with her family present at the ground while the rest watched from home.

Nandini had already impressed in DC’s opening game, taking 3-0-26-2, including key wickets of Gunalan Kamalini and Nicola Carey. With the hat-trick against Gujarat Giants, she has firmly announced herself as a player to watch in the WPL 2026, aiming to build on her consistency in the coming matches.
