The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to suspend the BPL 2025‑26 season for an indefinite period, as reported by several Bangladeshi media outlets, including ViewsBangladesh on Thursday, January 15. The decision comes after ongoing disputes between the players and the board. All teams will be informed soon and it is unclear when the league will resume, according to reports. Local media say that Bangladeshi players are still continuing their boycott. Sources add that all teams taking part in the league will soon be formally notified about the season being put on hold indefinitely.

The first match of the day, which was supposed to start the Dhaka leg of BPL 2025‑26, was postponed indefinitely because neither team showed up at the Sher-e Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. Players from the Chattogram Royals and Noakhali Express refused to come to the ground as part of a countrywide boycott by Bangladeshi cricketers affecting all formats of the game.
The boycott began after BCB director M Nazmul Islam made controversial comments
The boycott began after BCB director M Nazmul Islam made controversial comments about Tamim Iqbal and other Bangladeshi cricketers. Islam had labeled Tamim Iqbal an “Indian agent” just for suggesting talks between the BCB, ICC and BCCI during Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup 2026 boycott over political tensions with India.
The situation got worse when, facing strong criticism from players and cricket experts in Bangladesh, Islam added that if Bangladesh players withdrew from the T20 World Cup 2026, it would only harm the players themselves, not the BCB.
The board has removed M Nazmul Islam from his role as chairman of the Finance Committee
To protect the BCB’s operations and interests, the board has removed M Nazmul Islam from his role as chairman of the Finance Committee. His dismissal was reportedly done under the president’s authority, according to Article 31 of the BCB constitution.
For now, BCB President Aminul Islam will act as the Finance Committee chairman temporarily. The board is expected to appoint a permanent replacement for Nazmul later.
Meanwhile, during BPL 2025‑26, the evening match between Rajshahi Warriors and Sylhet Titans was also postponed after players from both teams refused to come to the stadium. The conflict between the players and the BCB official has additionally led to the cancellation of four Dhaka Cricket League matches scheduled for January 15.
