Bangladesh make BIG move ahead of T20 World Cup 2026, offer ICC to…

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has suggested a major change to the International Cricket Council (ICC) before the T20 World Cup 2026. To avoid travelling to India for the tournament, the BCB asked the ICC to move their team to a different group.

What did the official press release say?

The BCB shared these details in a press release on Saturday, January 17, after meeting with the ICC officials who visited Bangladesh to discuss the T20 World Cup situation.

“During the discussions, the BCB reiterated its formal request to the ICC to relocate Bangladesh’s matches to Sri Lanka. The Board also shared the Bangladesh Government’s views and concerns on the safety and security of the team, Bangladeshi fans, media and other stakeholders,” the BCB said in the press release.

“The discussions were conducted in a constructive, cordial and professional manner, with all parties engaging openly on the relevant issues. Among other points, the possibility of moving Bangladesh to a different group as a means of facilitating the matter with minimal logistical adjustments was discussed,” it added.

Why did this decision come from Bangladesh?

Bangladesh’s decision comes after the ICC reportedly did not accept their worries about a security risk in India. The ICC has not given any official response yet, even though Bangladesh has raised the issue several times since the Mustafizur Rahman incident.

Bangladesh asked the ICC to move their World Cup matches out of India, citing safety risks for their players. This request came after the BCCI ended Mustafizur Rahman’s IPL contract following protests by right-wing groups in India.

What is the problem between India and Bangladesh?

Tensions between India and Bangladesh are very high. India has often raised concerns about crimes against the Hindu minority in Bangladesh. Bangladesh has not softened its stance since the BCCI’s action against Mustafizur. The Bangladesh sports minister has repeatedly warned that the country may respond strongly against the BCCI.

It is still unclear how the ICC will respond to Bangladesh’s request, and time is running out for a decision
