In the recently concluded ICC meeting, Bangladesh remained firm on their stance to not play matches in India – requesting for a venue shift to Sri Lanka. But the ICC also stayed unmoved and stated that shifting matches wasn’t logistically possible so the international body rejected Bangladesh’s demand.
Pakistan to boycott T20 World Cup?
After the ICC meeting, Bangladesh declared that they will be boycotting the T2O World Cup 2026. But now another report has emerged in the Geo Super that Pakistan is also likely to boycott the tournament. The insiders earlier reported that while most Bangladesh cricketers are reportedly inclined to participate, a withdrawal could trigger a similar boycott from Pakistan, according to the sources.
What happened in the ICC meeting?
In the ICC meeting which was held on January 22, Bangladesh’s stance was heard and ICC made it clear that the matches won’t be shifted to Sri Lanka. Sources told PTI that BCB chief Aminul Islam was also present and the discussion was led by Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Nazrul while the senior players remained quiet. The adviser explained government’s position and opinions during the meet. When the conversation concluded, Bulbul was disappointed and in his media briefing he just hoped that Bangladesh would find a way to play the World Cup but his lack of confidence was clearly visible.
Potential financial that Bangladesh will face
This decision to boycott the World Cup will prove to be very damaging for Bangladesh cricket as BCB now risks to lose 325 crores Bangladeshi taka in annual ICC revenues. Not just this, the boardcasting and sponsorship income will also be affected with loss of about 60% of the revenue.
