Match-Fixing Shock in BPL! BCB to investigate the current board director, name is…

The Bangladesh Cricket Board’s Integrity Unit is set to launch a formal investigation into serious match-fixing allegations involving current BCB director Mohammad Mokleshur Rahman, a board official confirmed on Friday (January 23).

The allegations surfaced during the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the country’s only franchise-based T20 competition. The controversy gained traction on Thursday after journalist Riasat Azim uploaded audio recordings on his YouTube channel, claiming they featured phone conversations between Mokleshur and Noakhali Express chairman Towhidul Haque Towhid. In the clips, Mokleshur is allegedly heard instructing how matches should be played, raising grave concerns over the integrity of the tournament.

According to a BCB official who spoke to Cricbuzz, Integrity Unit head Alex Marshall has already begun preliminary work on the case. “Alex Marshall has started his investigation, and he has also stepped down from the BCB’s audit committee,” the official said, underlining the board’s attempt to avoid any conflict of interest during the probe.

Mokleshur, who was elected as a BCB director from the Chapainawabganj District Sports Association under the Rajshahi District Sports Association in the October 6 elections last year, has responded to the developments by relinquishing some of his responsibilities.

“For the sake of a proper investigation, I’ve resigned from the audit committee and all other duties, but I’ll remain a director,” Mokleshur told the website when contacted. “I want a clean investigation into the matter,” he added, without going into further detail.

Marshall is expected to oversee a comprehensive inquiry, which will reportedly include scrutiny of call records, financial transactions, and any potential violations of both BCB and ICC anti-corruption regulations. Given the seriousness of the allegations and the evidence already in the public domain, the case could have far-reaching implications for the BPL and Bangladesh cricket as a whole.

The BCB is yet to issue an official statement beyond confirming the initiation of the Integrity Unit’s investigation, but the spotlight is firmly on the board as it looks to uphold credibility at a time when the league is already under intense scrutiny.
