Pakistan plans new drama to participate in T20 World Cup, but boycott India match due to…

Another controversy appears to be developing ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup. According to reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering boycotting its group-stage match against India. The match is scheduled to be played in Colombo on February 15. The PCB is reportedly considering this as an option to register its protest against the International Cricket Council (ICC).

India–Pakistan Match in Question

According to a report by Geo News, the PCB is seriously considering the option of not playing the match against India. The board believes this decision could send a strong message against the ICC’s recent stance.

Withdrawal from the Tournament Also Under Discussion

The report also states that Pakistan might even consider the drastic step of withdrawing from the entire tournament. PCB Chairman and Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, is expected to discuss this issue with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Naqvi has made it clear that the final decision on whether or not to participate in the World Cup will be made by the government.

PCB Upset with ICC Over Bangladesh Issue

Pakistan was the only country that supported Bangladesh’s request not to play its matches in India. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi called the ICC’s decision “unjust.” However, the ICC maintains that there was no credible security threat to warrant changing the match venues.

Consequences of Boycotting the India Match

If Pakistan boycotts the match against India, it will be considered a walkover, and the team will automatically lose two points. Group A includes India, Pakistan, the USA, the Netherlands, and Namibia. Losing two points could significantly jeopardize Pakistan’s chances of advancing in the tournament.

Severe Penalties Possible for Withdrawing from the Entire World Cup

Pulling out of the tournament altogether could have far more serious consequences for Pakistan. Sources indicate that the ICC is ready to take tough punitive action against the PCB if such a step is taken. Such sanctions could tarnish Pakistan cricket’s image and have long-term repercussions for the board and the team.
