How Pakistan can qualify for U-19 World Cup semi-final? Know full scenario

By defeating New Zealand in their last second-round game this Friday at Bulawayo’s Queens Sports Club, England earned a spot in the final four of the 2026 U-19 World Cup. This result leaves just one opening for either India or Pakistan to move forward from Group B, making their upcoming game even more intense.

The team captained by Thomas Rew has not lost a single match yet, though they might not finish in first place. They are slated to play against either Australia or Afghanistan in the next round. The official rankings for the group will be settled this Sunday once the big game between India and Pakistan concludes.

Semi-final qualification scenario

England: England have already reached the semi-finals. If India loses to Pakistan, England will play Afghanistan. If India finishes first in the group, England will drop to second place and will then face Australia. England won the U-19 World Cup in 1998.

India: If India beats Pakistan, they will qualify for the semi-finals and finish at the top of the group because their net run rate is better than England’s. In that case, India will play Afghanistan. To avoid missing out on second place, India must make sure that if they lose, the defeat is by less than 85 runs. If Pakistan are chasing, India must stop them from reaching the target before 31.5 overs (or 33.2 overs if the target is 250).

Pakistan: For Pakistan, just winning is not enough. They must win by a big margin to beat India’s net run rate. Pakistan can no longer finish first in the group. If they qualify for the semi-finals, they will face Australia.

Know all about Pakistan’s super six points

Pakistan and India have each played and won one game, but the Asian champions have two points fewer than the five-time winners. In the same way, the Men in Green began with two points less than England. This happened because the tournament rules let teams carry over their points and run rates from the first round into the Super Six. However, you only get to keep points from matches against teams that also made it to the next round.

Because Pakistan finished second in their group behind England, they moved forward with only two points while England had four. India, on the other hand, won all their matches against New Zealand and Bangladesh. Since both of those teams also moved on, India was able to start the Super Six stage with a full four points.
