Pakistan government took a shocking decision to boycott match against India on February 15 in the T20 World Cup 2026. The decision to boycott matches against India was announced on Sunday evening where Naqvi held a meeting with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The final verdict was declared around 8 PM IST and this sent shockwaves across the cricketing world. Soon after the confirmation, Pakistan unveiled their official jersey for the upcoming marquee tournament.
The Pakistan government has confirmed that the team will be participating in 20-nation tournament which will be held across India and Sri Lanka. This means that Pakistan will forfeit the match against India which is scheduled to be held in Colombo.
The team India on the other side will be adhering to ICC guidelines and will take the field February 15 – the scheduled day for India vs Pakistan match. Team India will adhere to all ICC-mandated procedures, including training as per schedule and attending a pre-match press conference at the R Premadasa Stadium.
If Pakistan does not take the field and continues with its stance then India will get two points while Pakistan will face serious implications from ICC which includes:
Complete exclusion from T20 World Cup
Mandatory compensation to Jio-Star for broadcast and huge advertising losses
Withholding ICC’s annual revenue distribution
Restrictions on bilateral series along with potential impact on World Test Championship and ICC rankings
Ban on overseas players from participating in Pakistan Super League
