Pakistan beat India’s world record; break England’s 21-year-old record; become only team in world to…
On Sunday, February 1, Pakistan secured a dominant 111-run win over Australia at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, completing a historic 3-0 series sweep. This massive victory shattered a 21-year-old world record previously held by England, marking the largest-ever win by runs against Australia in T20 history. As the final match before the 2026 T20 World Cup, the result sends a powerful message about Pakistan’s readiness for the upcoming global tournament.
What happened in the series?
Having already secured the first two matches by 22 and 91 runs, the Pakistan team, captained by Salman Ali Agha, batted first for the third consecutive game. They set a formidable target of 207, thanks to half-centuries from Saim Ayub (56) and Babar Azam (50*), along with a rapid 46-run cameo from Shadab Khan.
When it was their turn to bowl, Pakistan’s spinners once again overwhelmed the Australian lineup. Mohammad Nawaz was the star of the defense, taking a career-best five wickets for just 18 runs. Australia struggled to find any rhythm and was eventually bowled out for a meager 96, handing the hosts a massive victory and a clean sweep of the series.
How did Pakistan create history?
The Pakistan national team achieved the largest-ever victory against Australia in the history of T20 cricket. They became the first side to defeat the 2021 World Champions by a margin exceeding 100 runs.
This milestone overtook a 21-year-old record set by England during their inaugural T20 international in 2005, where they won by exactly 100 runs in Southampton. Remarkably, in this single series alone, Pakistan has secured two of the three most significant run-margin wins ever recorded against the Australian side.

Australia struggled significantly throughout the series, losing eight wickets in the opening match and being completely dismissed in both the second and third games. The primary cause of their collapse was Pakistan’s spin attack, which accounted for 22 of the 28 wickets taken.
This performance set a new world record for the most wickets taken by a team’s spinners in a short series of three matches or fewer. This achievement surpassed the previous benchmark, which had been jointly held by the Indian and Sri Lankan national teams.

Pakistan has made history by becoming the first team to beat Australia in every game of a T20 series on two separate occasions. Their first 3-0 sweep against the Australians took place in the United Arab Emirates back in 2018.
The only other nation to achieve a similar feat is India. They managed to win all three matches of a T20 series against Australia during their tour of the country in 2016.
