Ishan Kishan recalls emotional moment when Virat Kohli consoled him while he was on ‘verge of crying’

Ishan Kishan’s return to the top was nothing short of heroic, he made a comeback after being dropped from BCCI Central Contract in 2024. Instead of fading away, Ishan went back to the domestic circuit, did all the grind and paved his way back into the Indian Team.

In the five-match T20I series against New Zealand, he scored 76, 28 and a dashing century in three outings. Ishan has now emerged as a strong contender alongside Abhishek Sharma for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Back in 2021, Ishan was going through a lean patch while playing Mumbai Indians. Managing 241 runs in 10 matches his struggles were evident and at that time Indian legend Virat Kohli walked up to Kishan after tough outing.

Kohli consoled the batter and offered a piece of very strong advice. The image of two of them went immediately viral on social media where Ishan was standing completely broken next to Virat Kohli after missing out on a match-winning knock against RCB. Ishan later revealed that Kohli’s reassurance arrived when he needed it most, admitting he was close to tears during that conversation.

“I was very sad during another match. Remember a video had come, where I was on the verge of crying before Virat bhai consoled me. Bas kisi tarah se aansu roke huye thhe (I just somehow managed to hold back tears). He [Virat] must have seen me just lying there. Poor kid; he probably must be thinking too much,” Ishan said on the 2 Sloggers Podcast.
