Delhi Capitals dominate Gujarat Giants to seal fourth consecutive WPL final spot

The Delhi Capitals played a great game in all areas to reach their fourth straight WPL final. They easily beat the Gujarat Giants by seven wickets in Tuesday’s knockout match. After choosing to bowl first, Delhi kept Gujarat to 168 runs. Then, openers Shafali Verma and Lizelle Lee set the stage for a quick win by scoring 89 runs together, helping the team reach the target in just 15.4 overs.

Delhi started very fast as Verma and Lee attacked the bowlers early on

During the chase, Delhi started very fast as Verma and Lee attacked the bowlers early on. They hit 15 fours and a six, making the run chase look simple. However, leg-spinner Georgia Wareham gave Gujarat a small chance by getting both openers out in a single over. Despite this, Delhi didn’t slow down. Laura Wolvaardt and captain Jemimah Rodrigues stayed calm and played skillfully to keep the team on track. Finally, Marizanne Kapp hit the winning runs to set up a championship match against Bengaluru this Thursday.

Gujarat reached a decent score

Earlier in the evening, Gujarat reached a decent score thanks to an unbeaten 62 from Beth Mooney. The Australian opener held the innings together after Delhi’s bowlers put Gujarat under early pressure. Mooney got help from Wareham, who scored 35 runs, and later from Kashvee Gautam. Even though Gujarat struggled at the start, they managed to score over 100 runs in the final 10 overs of their innings.

Delhi’s bowlers were sharp early on, with Chinelle Henry taking three wickets and Nandini Sharma taking two wickets in her very first over. Nandini removed Anushka Sharma and then got the big wicket of captain Ashleigh Gardner for zero. While Gujarat tried to fight back through Wareham’s aggressive hitting, Henry returned to take more wickets and stop their momentum. In the end, Delhi’s strong batting performance proved too much for the Giants to handle.
