Several freelance creators have contributed to the puzzle, while Will Shortz has been editing it since 1993. The difficulty increases throughout the week, with the easiest on Mondays and the hardest on Saturdays.  The larger Sunday Crossword gets featured in the New York Times Magazine and is an icon in American culture. Margaret Farrar was the first editor of the puzzle.

What Is NYT Mini Crossword?

A smaller version of the NYT Crossword, the Mini Crossword is accessible to anyone with a New York Times account. The daily crossword puzzle by Joel Fagliano offers three to five clues in each direction on a 5×5 grid most often, but sometimes the puzzles are larger 7×7, especially on Saturdays. The Mini is easier compared to the traditional daily puzzle.

Unlike the bigger NYT Crossword, the Mini version can be played for free on the New York Times website or the NYT Games app. However, if you want to access old puzzle archives, you will need to subscribe to NYT Games. The NYT Mini is a fun daily puzzle.
