In a recent news update Qualcomm has decided that it would allow manufacturers who use their chipsets to provide up to 8 years of software update on devices. The program would include all the phones which would be using the Snapdragon 8 Elite powered devices with Android 15. Beyond that the program would also cover devices with Snapdragon 8 and 7 series chips as well. The major update of the whole new program is that, the phones would not be limited by their chips any longer, if the manufacturers want to provide their users with an extended period of support.
Longevity of Use The Big Issue
Longevity of use is often a concern for manufacturers , as time elapses the updates recognize the faltering state of the battery and often optimize the phone for better battery use. Similar had been the case when Apple had recognized that its updates had optimized the battery use as per different applications on their phone.
As per them it was necessary for the phone to be able to use its connectivity modules with ease. There have been a slew of reports that have acknowledged that updates that appear after a extended period often reduce the overall usability and practicality of the phone.
Majority of the comments that have been doing rounds over the internet on the post have been regarding the same opinions. People have been writing about how major updates in the later period of the phone often slow them down and create major hassles for the users who still want to continue with the phone.
But OS updates not only optimize the battery for better use they further improve the overall security protocols to help the user have more security against the updated threats and viruses. Another user on social media pitched a question about how the AI features that have been included in the OS of the phones. He spoke how in the recent few years the phone would be equipped with offline Ai technologies that can only be updated with hardware updates regardless of any online OS updates.
