Apple Foldable Patent Leaks Reveal New Details – Could the Phone’s Launch Be Delayed? News24 –

As per a few recent leaks that have been circulating over the internet it has become apparent that Apple has been developing new folding screens that would not be meant for the foldable phone only. Rumors that have been reported by CNET allege that Apple might be developing folding displays for Macs and iPads as well. Hence it’s apparent that since the Folding phone from Apple has already reached a stage nearer to production we would see a folding display first on iPhones than Macs or iPads. 

The latest leaks by analyst KUO confirm a 2026 launch Window for the iPhone Flip, though it’s possible that the new phone’s launch might slip into 2027.  As per the leaks, it’s possible that the foldable device from Apple might have a 7.8 inch crease free inner display and a  5.5 inch outer display as well. This would make the phone a book-style foldable just like that of the Samsung Galaxy Fold 6. 

Although the news of the Folding iPhone has recently permeated into the market a patent that was filed by Apple four years ago and granted in last July showcases how Apple has been working on a foldable device for some time . Apple has been putting a lot of emphasis on reducing the crease from its foldable display apparently. 

There had also been rumors that were reported by the likes of Turned Force and 9 to 5 Mac that reported that development of a crease free screen can further push back the launch of a new fold phone from apple to 2027.

Apple’s Patent Details 

The patent that Apple has been able to gain for developing phones with folding screen designs was applied for by the brand in 2021, it was granted to them in 2024. As per Verge it was a 22-page document that was titled  “Electronic Devices With Durable Folding Displays,” Though the patent document does not offer any formidable information about the iPhone Flip. Most of the images that have been included in the document reveal the cross sections of the potential displays whose fold would be supported by a Hinge. It’s important to note that the cross sections that have been mentioned showcase the screen to fold around a hinge.

Some of the other features that have been depicted in the Patent papers include the mention of a feature in which the display would slightly fold so that when the phone drops by accident it falls on its edges rather than the flat surface of the screen.  

Issues That Have led To A Slow Development 

One of the major issues that foldable phones go through includes the right amalgam of glass and plastic mix so that the crease is not visible after the phone has been flipped open. To get such features the brand would have to wait for new developments from Corning or other contemporaries to develop a glass material that stands to their requirements.  Considering the challenges that the brand has been witnessing in development. A few designs have been analyzed by the brand; an older report by Bloomberg had reported that the new phone would be very different from that of the flip but the most recent design leaks seem more conventional.
