Apple is forever under the laden burden of being the first manufacturer to reveal new innovations, to keep its product line up fresh. In a similar pursuit the brand has recently refreshed the Mac line up with the M4 chip but as of now the brand has started progressing towards the M5 Macbook Pro-models that are to be expected to be launched this fall.
Design Changes
While Apple has had plans to update the technical specifications of the new Macbook there have been no leaks or prospects of the device getting a design update, so expect similar looks as that of the old Mac’s. The device might be launched with minor updates but most of the changes would be with the internals. Apple won’t change the design of the Macbook Pro until the transition needs an OLED display change which is not rumored to happen till 2026 at the earliest.
M5 chips
The Macbook Pro would use M5, M5 Pro and M5 Max Chips, the entry level devices would have the M5 chip while the higher end models would have M5 Pro and M5 Max Chips. Apple’s M5 Chips would be manufactured on a 3- Nanometer Process like M4 Chips, But Apple is planning for a new innovative tech which would give the M5 line up an edge over the M4 chips.
New Innovations
Apple’s manufacturing partner TSMC plans to Use a more advanced SOIC packaging technology for the M5 Chips. The new innovation allows stacking of chips via a 3d structure for better electrical performance and thermal management. TSMC has been able to bring in a new next gen Hybrid SoIC package that uses thermoplastic carbon fiber composite molding Technology.
New Chips would be faster, more efficient, better at handling Ai and machine learning Tasks. Apple has further plans to use the M5 chips for Ai servers that would power the Apple Intelligence and Machine learning features.
Release Date
Mass production of the new M5 chip is to start in 2025, so we can see the first Macs with M5 Technology somewhere around the fall of 2025, last year the update came in October 2024, so it’s possible that the laptops might get an update in October 2025 this year, the exact date has not been revealed yet but a October launch seems possible. Beyond the Chip updates Apple is also working on a new OLED display Mac is expected to have next generation 2 Nanometer chip.
