Yamaha R3 Discontinued From April 1 Until BS6 Model Introduced In India

The Yamaha R3 will be discontinued in India from April 1, until a BS6 compliant motorcycle is introduced in the country. The Yamaha R3 features a BS4 compliant 321cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine.

The company has not updated the R3’s engine to meet the upcoming BS6 emission standards. With the deadline for BS4 motorcycles set to March 31, the motorcycle will no longer be available in the Indian market for sale.

The current-gen Yamaha R3 features aggressive styling with twin-pod headlamp design and a relaxed riding position. The R3 is a versatile motorcycle and can be used for the daily commute, on long journeys and for track use as well.

The Yamaha R3 is powered by a 321cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin-cylinder engine. It produces 41bhp peaking at 10,750rpm and a peak torque of 29.6Nm at 9,000rpm. The engine comes mated to a six-speed gearbox.

The R3 features a diamond frame resulting in a well-balanced motorcycle. The suspension duties on the motorcycle are handled by telescopic forks at the front and an adjustable mono-shock suspension unit at the rear.

Braking on the Yamaha R3 is done through a 298mm disc at the front and 220mm disc at the rear, supported by dual-channel ABS. The R3 features 17-inch alloy wheels shod with Metzeler Sportec M5 tyres at both ends.

The current-gen Yamaha R3 features a part-digital instrument cluster offering basic information to the rider. Also, the global version of the R3 comes equipped with much more premium equipment including an UpSide-Down fork.

With the Yamaha R3 getting discontinued in India, buyers looking for an entry-level fully-faired sportbike have options to choose between the TVS Apache RR 310 and the KTM RC 390.
