MG Motor’s Plan Of Launching The Hector Plus And Gloster Remains Unchanged
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses across the world have been affected badly. India is currently facing a lockdown and due to that, the automobile industry is also going through a tough time. Also, there have been reports that several dealerships are on the verge of shutting down completely.
MG Motors was going to introduce the Hector Plus around the mid of 2020 and the MG Gloster during the festive season and the company is sticking with their plan. MG already showcased both the SUVs at the Auto Expo a few months back. The company has also promised that it will not be cutting jobs this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now coming to the Hector Plus, as the name suggests, it is essentially a more premium six or seven-seater version of the popular Hector SUV which is already in sale in our market. At the front, the SUV comes with black-finish below the LED DRLs and around the blacked-out front grille.
The design of the main headlamp and fog lamp unit positioned on the front bumper have slightly changed. Overall, the design of the Hector Plus remains more or less the same as the Hector SUV, with few changes here and there. Powering the MG Hector Plus will be the same 1.5-litre turbo petrol and 2.0-litre diesel engines, which powers the current Hector SUV. The turbo-petrol unit produces 115bhp and 250Nm of peak torque.
On the other hand, the 2.0-litre diesel churns out 173bhp and 350Nm of peak torque. The petrol engine also comes with a 48V mild-hybrid system as optional. The two engines are mated to a standard six-speed manual gearbox, with the optional seven-speed DCT on offer with the petrol variant.
Speaking of the MG Gloster, it is a seven-seater luxury SUV and is already on sale in the Chinese market (available in RWD and AWD variants), and is called the Maxus D90 by MG Motors’ parent-company, SAIC. The India-spec MG Gloster is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel motor and is expected to pump out 218bhp and 480Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
