Toyota Unveiled The New Harrier In Japan

The next-generation Toyota Harrier has been officially unveiled in the Japanese market. The coupe-style SUV will go on sale in the international markets at the end of 2020. Also, this is the fourth generation of the Harrier since its inception in the late 1990s, and the SUV formed the basis of the Lexus RX.

The Toyota Harrier will be underpinning the modular TNGA platform. The new generation SUV will feature sleeker design elements and a coupe silhouette. The Harrier also gets a long bonnet and the steeply raked C-pillar along with LED-projector headlamps with J-shaped LED DRLs and slim LED tail lights along with an extended light bar that compliments the looks of the car.

On the inside, the SUV gets dual-tone black and tan leather upholstery with a large 12.3-inch touchscreen right at the center of the dashboard and touch-sensitive HVAC controls below it. The instrument cluster is a more conventional unit, sporting twin dials on either side of a larger MID display. The Harrier also comes loaded with features like an electrochromic panoramic sunroof, JBL audio system, and a digital rear-view mirror and many more.

Mechanically, the Toyota Harrier is available with a choice of petrol and hybrid powertrains. The 2.0-litre direct-injection, turbo-petrol engine makes 170bhp of power and 207Nm of peak torque and is mated to a Direct-Shift CVT. On the other hand, the hybrid version gets a 2.5-litre petrol engine that produces 175bhp of power and 221Nm and is paired to an 88kW electric motor at the front wheel. Moreover, there is a four-wheel-drive version also which gets a 40kW motor at the rear wheel, which then pumps out a combined power of around 220bhp. Irrespective of the powertrain, both versions are offered with an all-wheel drivetrain.
