Maruti Suzuki S-Cross Diesel Model Discontinued

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., is ready to introduce the all new Maruti S-Cross BS6 petrol variant at the upcoming Auto Expo. The company announced that the diesel models will be discontinued as the costs did not justify the transition from BS4 to BS6, and that they want to continue to offer cars for the masses.

The Maruti S-Cross was initially launched with two diesel engine options – a 1.3-litre, and a 1.6-litre. The 1.6-litre engine was eventually discontinued when the S-Cross received a facelift, and the 1.3-litre received an SHVS mild-hybrid system.

The outgoing 1.3-litre diesel engine featured on the current-generation Maruti S-Cross produces 89bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The multi-jet engine, now discontinued, was sourced from Fiat.

The new 2020 Maruti S-Cross will feature the company’s BS6 compliant 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that is also featured on current-generation models of the Maruti Ciaz and Ertiga.

Exact engine specifications remain unknown at this time, but expectations are that the engine will offer the same power and performances figures that is does with the Ciaz and the Ertiga – 103bhp of power and 138Nm of torque.

The 1.5-litre K15B engine works in sync with the company’s SHVS mild-hybrid system that allows for better fuel efficiency. The engine us also expected to be mounted on the upcoming 2020 Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza models.

In addition, the Maruti Ignis facelift 2020 model will continue to feature the company’s 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine, albeit in a BS6 format. The company is also expected to give the Ignis minor cosmetic upgrades.
