An extraordinary astronomical event is approaching called “planetary parade” which will make all seven planets of the solar system visible from Earth. It is a rare phenomenon which viewers won’t be able to witness until 2040 and it’s a great opportunity for space enthusiasts to observe the solar system’s majesty.
According to astronomers Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune will appear on the same side of the sun together forming a planetary parade. Although it won’t appear in a straight line, the planets will be positioned along the ecliptic, the curved path that the Sun traces across the sky.
The alignment will occur on February 28, 2025 globally and it can be witnessed in India around March 3, 2025. NASA suggests the best time to witness it is just after sunset.
Observers are advised to use astronomical apps to pinpoint the best viewing experience. NASA suggests the best time to witness it is just after sunset. Some planets will be observable without equipment, where Venus will stand out as the night sky’s brightest objects, while Mars will be identifiable by its reddish hue and will appear high above the southern horizon in the Gemini Constellation. Jupiter will be the second brightest planet and will appear in the Taurus constellation.
Whereas spotting Uranus and Neptune will be challenging and additional equipment will be required. Observers need to find a way away from citylight, a perfectly dark and clear sky and Binoculars or a telescope will be necessary for optimal visibility.
