Trump’s New US Travel Ban On Pakistanis & Afghans From Next Week? – Here’s What It Means! News24 –

Since becoming the U.S. President, Donald Trump has signed numerous executive orders, including those related to the deportation of illegal migrants. According to a report by Reuters, a new executive order on travel restrictions, expected to be signed next week, may include citizens of Afghanistan and Pakistan, potentially barring their entry into the United States.

The report said that the Trump administration has prepared a “list” for the travel ban based on a government review of countries’ security and vetting risks. Reuters also added that the “Other countries could also be on the list,” without naming any other nation.

Trump Had Did This Before

If this get implemented, the order would resemble Trump’s first-term travel ban, in which he targeted several Muslim-majority nations. That policy, was initially introduced in 2017. It was revised multiple times before being upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2018. Trump’s successor, Joe Biden, reversed the ban in 2021.

Which All Countries Will Be Included

Reports suggest that Afghanistan is expected to be placed on the list of countries facing a full travel ban, while Pakistan is also under consideration. Other countries may also be included, though details remain unclear.

Trump’s Executive Order and Its Broader Implications

On January 20, Trump signed an executive order calling for stricter security checks on all foreign nationals entering the U.S. As part of this directive, several key government agencies—including the State Department, the Department of Justice, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence—have been tasked with identifying countries that could face travel restrictions. They are required to submit their recommendations by March 12.

The travel ban is a key element of Trump’s larger immigration policy, which he has been pushing since resuming office. In an October 2023 speech, he vowed to impose entry restrictions on individuals from Gaza, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Yemen, and any other regions deemed a security threat to the U.S.

Who Will Be Impacted

The proposed travel ban could impact tens of thousands of Afghans who have already been approved for resettlement in the U.S. as refugees or under Special Immigrant Visas. Many of them face serious threats from the Taliban due to their past work with the U.S. during the two-decade-long war in Afghanistan.

The Reuters report said Afghanistan and Pakistan will be included in the recommended list of countries for a complete travel ban. The Taliban, who seized Kabul as the last US troops pulled out in August 2021 after two decades of war, are confronting an insurgency by Islamic State’s regional branch. Pakistan also is grappling with violent Islamist militants.

Advocacy Group Warns Of Possible US Travel Ban On Afghan Migrants

Shawn VanDiver, the head of #AfghanEvac, a coalition of groups that coordinates evacuation and resettlement of Afghans with the American government, urged Afghans holding valid U.S. visas and travel documents to enter the country as soon as possible, citing information from sources within the U.S. State Department.

“If you have a valid U.S. visa in your passport / travel document, travel as soon as possible.
We are hearing from within State that a travel ban is likely coming in the next week for Afghan nationals (and others). We don’t have full details yet, but we couldn’t stay silent. More updates as we get them. Stay safe.,” the group wrote on X.
