Dhaka: A Dhaka court ordered the seizure of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi residence, ‘Sudasadhan.” Along with ‘Sudasadhan,’ other properties owned by her family members, who are in exile in India, have been ordered to be seized. According to an official, the court has further ordered the seizure of 124 bank accounts belonging to Hasina’s family. The other properties that have been seized include holdings by Hasina’s son Sajib Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed Putul, sister Sheikh Rehana, and her daughters, Tulip Siddique and Radwan Mujib Siddique.

Notably, Hasina’s house ‘Sudasadhan was named after her late husband, nuclear scientist MA Wazed Miah, who was nicknamed Sudha Mia.

What Caused Action?

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Ghalib issued the order on Tuesday following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s Ministry Of Foreign Affairs had lodged strong protest with the Indian Government against Hasina’s statement. The Ministry highlighted Hasina’s statement continuously being made in different platforms, including social media and called them “false and fabricated.” It added that former Bangladesh Prime Minister’s statement aimed at triggering instability.

Bangladesh requested the Government of India to immediately take appropriate measures, in the spirit of mutual respect and understanding, to stop Hasina from making such “false, fabricated and incendiary statements” using social media and other communications while she is in India, the statement said.

Sheikh Hasina is currently residing in India, after she fled Bangladesh on August 5 last year. Her move followed the weeks of protests and clashes and student led movement which became violent with the passage of time. Following this political incident, an interim government led by Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus was formed in Bangladesh.
