Russian President Vladimir Putin’s NEW Proposal To End Ukraine War! Will Zelensky And US Approve It? News24 –
Russian president Vladimir Putin has currently suggested a new proposal to end Ukraine war. He has proposed placing Ukraine under a temporary administrative authority to facilitate new elections and sign important agreements to achieve a resolution to the war.
According to Reuters, Putin made these remarks during his visit to Murmansk, a northern port city, while the U.S. was working to mediate a resolution to the conflict by reconnecting with Russia and holding separate discussions with both Moscow and Kyiv. He also expressed his belief that U.S. President Donald Trump genuinely desired peace.
Russia- Ukraine War
Russia’s latest invasion on Ukraine happened in February 2022. The war between the two countries has killed and injured hundreds of thousands of Russians and Ukrainians including soldiers. It also had displaced millions reducing towns to rubble. This triggered the sharpest confrontation in decades between Moscow and the West.
Putin’s proposal for a temporary administration seems to have come from his longstanding claim that Ukraine’s leadership is not a legitimate negotiating partner. According to him, President Volodymyr Zelensky has remained in power beyond the expiration of his mandate in May 2024. “In principle, of course, a temporary administration could be introduced in Ukraine under the auspices of the U.N, the United States, European countries and our partners,” Putin was quoted as saying in talks with seamen at the port- According to Reuters. “This would be in order to hold democratic elections and bring to power a capable government enjoying the trust of the people and then to start talks with them about a peace treaty.”
Putin On Trump
Putin stated that Trump’s willingness to engage in direct talks with Russia, unlike his predecessor Joe Biden who avoided such contact, indicated that the new president genuinely sought peace.
“In my opinion, the newly elected president of the United States sincerely wants an end to the conflict for a number of reasons,” the agencies quoted him as saying.
According to Reuters reports that, when asked about Putin’s comments on a temporary administration, a White House National Security Council spokesperson emphasized that Ukraine’s constitution and its people determine the country’s governance.
How Did Zelensky And Ukraine React?
There was no immediate comment from Ukraine. But Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is certain to oppose it. European leaders have continued their efforts to support Ukraine, promising after a meeting in Paris on Thursday to bolster Kyiv’s army so it remains central to the country’s future security. France and Britain worked to expand support for a foreign “reassurance force” in case of a truce with Russia, but Moscow rejects the presence of any foreign troops in Ukraine.
Zelenskyy has dismissed any doubts about his legitimacy, stating that Ukrainian law prohibits elections under martial law and that conducting a poll during wartime would be impossible. Zelenskiy has repeatedly accused Putin in recent days of wanting to press on with the conflict.
