On Friday, a strong 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit Mandalay, Myanmar, with tremors reaching as far as Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, and the northern city of Chiang Mai. Prime Minster Narendra Modi will visit Thailand’s capital Bangkok on the request of Thai Prime Minster H.E. Paetongtarn Shinawatra from April 3 to 4, 2025 to participate in the 6th BIMSTEC Summit on April 4, 2025. Thailand under the current BIMSTEC Chairship will host the summit where Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi plans to attend. His official engagement will also take place during the visit.

MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also mentioned that, “India has been the first responder. When Cyclone Yagi struck Myanmar, that time again, India had launched an operation. We provided relief, material, humanitarian assistance to the people of Myanmar, not just to people in Myanmar but several other countries that were impacted. It is part of our policy to be the first responder.”
He also mentioned that, “Today we launched Operation Brahma. Brahma is a god of creation, at a time when we are extending a helping hand to the Government of Myanmar.”
