During the strong earthquake that hit Myanmar and Bangkok on Friday, a Thai women gave birth while people were being rushed out of the hospital.
The woman, Kanthong Saenmuangshin, had gone to the hospital for a routine check-up when the shaking started. Soon after, she went into labor.
As all the patients were being taken out of the Police General Hospital in Bangkok, the 36-year-old woman was worried she might give birth on the stairs. Her waters broke while she was being helped down five flights of stairs.
Birth During The Earthquake
“I was telling my baby, don’t come out yet,” Saenmuangshin said on Saturday.
“Then I was put on a hospital bed and was surrounded by a lot of medical staff where I just gave birth right then and there. It was all a shock to me too,” she told Reuters.
Saenmuangshin was finally relieved when she safely gave birth to her daughter. Her husband couldn’t make it to the hospital at that moment because he was at work.
The couple decided to name their daughter “Mink,” but they haven’t picked an official name yet. They also said the official name will not be related to the earthquake.
In another story, doctors in Bangkok helped a woman give birth on the street outside the Police General Hospital during the earthquake. The woman was having surgery when the tremors started and had to be carried out of the hospital by medical teams.
