In a dramatic turn of events China has expressed willingness to buy more Indian products to balance trade. Beijing’s Ambassador Xu Feihong said just ahead of a US tariff announcement expected to hit the south Asian neighbors. “We are willing to work with the Indian side to strengthen practical cooperation in trade and other areas, and to import more Indian products that are well-suited to the Chinese market,” the ambassador to India was quoted as saying by China’s state-run Global Times, in a story posted Monday.
Xi Jinping’s “Dragon-Elephant tango”
On the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations with India, Chinese President Xi Jinping underscored the importance of closer cooperation between the two Asian giants. In a message to President Droupadi Murmu, Xi described the relationship as a “Dragon-Elephant tango,” symbolising harmonious coexistence and shared progress.
Peace And Stability Between India-China
Xi sent his message to the president when trade tensions around the world were rising, especially as the US imposed tariffs on Chinese goods. He asked both India and China to communicate more, work together on important global issues, and keep peace along their shared Himalayan border, where a military clash in 2020 had caused problems.
75th Anniversary Of The Diplomatic Ties
According to the government figures, Bilateral trade between the neighbors stood at $101.7 billion in 2023-24, according to India’s trade ministry, with India running a significant deficit. India’s main exports include petroleum oil, iron ore, marine products and vegetable oil, amounting to $16.6 billion. Beijing’s Ambassador Xu Feihong mark the 75th anniversary of the diplomatic ties.
According to Trump, US President Donald Trump will implement reciprocal tariffs on various countries starting Wednesday. He has criticized China and India for trade practices, which he considers unfair.
In March, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised President Trump in a podcast and has been making efforts to keep him happy. Modi also mentioned that he is working with Chinese President Xi Jinping to bring peace and normalcy back to the border.
