IMD Alert: From Mumbai To UP, ‘Very Heavy’ To ‘Heavy’ Rainfall Likely


Incessant heavy rains hit Mumbai on Wednesday causing severe water-logging across the city. The downpour halted local trains and diverted at least 14 incoming flights due to unsafe landing conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai till 8.30 am on Thursday after heavy rain lashes Thane, Palghar, and Raigad districts.

Due to extreme weather conditions, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has declared a shutdown for all schools and colleges. The police have also appealed to people to remain indoors citing safety reasons.

According to the IMD weather forecast, heavy rains are likely to continue in Mumbai till September 27.

The relentless downpour also caused a landslide on the Mumbra bypass at Thane around 9:30 PM on September 25, causing more than three hours of traffic congestion in the area. Heavy rains have badly affected transportation as several trains are stalled and flights diverted due to strong winds.

According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall is expected in about 16 districts of UP today, including parts of DElhi-NCR.

Heavy to light rainfalls were witnessed in different parts of Lucknow on Wednesday.

In Mathura, it rained heavily causing water-logging in several parts of the city.
