BCCI To Announce Gautam Gambhir As Head Coach On This Date

Former Indian opening batter Gautam Gambhir is on the verge of being confirmed as the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team. Gambhir has been linked with the coaching position for months, especially with current coach Rahul Dravid’s contract expiring after the ongoing T20 World Cup.

Gautam Gambhir To Be Announced As Head Coach This Month

According to a report in Dainik Bhaskar, the BCCI is set to officially announce Gambhir’s appointment in the coming days. Gambhir agreed to take on the role after being approached by the BCCI, but he had certain conditions, which the board has accepted.

The report indicates that Gambhir insisted on having the authority to select his support staff. This demand was accepted by the BCCI, and they are expected to make an official announcement regarding Gambhir’s new role later this month.

Previously, when Ravi Shastri was head coach, Vikram Rathour replaced Sanjay Bangar as the batting coach and retained his position even after Dravid succeeded Shastri.

Currently, Paras Mhambrey and T Dilip serve as the bowling and fielding coaches, respectively. The report also suggests that Gambhir plans to make changes not only to the support staff but also within the team.

Under Gambhir’s mentorship, the Kolkata Knight Riders won the IPL 2024 title. His successful leadership at KKR has bolstered his reputation as a leading coaching candidate.

When asked earlier about the Team India role, Gambhir had shown his interest in the same.

“I would love to coach the Indian team. There is no bigger honour than coaching your national team. You are representing 140 crore Indians and those across the globe as well,” the 42-year-old had said.
